Prepare my returnHow personal income tax is worked out
Reliefs come off first: 20% of your annual rent, capped at ₦500,000, plus pension, NHF, NHIS and life assurance premiums. What is left is taxable income, and the bands apply in slices, not all at one rate. The first ₦800,000 is free, then 15% to ₦3m, 18% to ₦12m, 21% to ₦25m, 23% to ₦50m, and 25% above that. The consolidated relief allowance was repealed, which is why an old calculator will give you a different answer.
How companies are taxed
A small company, meaning turnover of ₦100m or less and fixed assets of ₦250m or less, pays no company income tax and no development levy, though it still has to file. Everyone else pays 30% of assessable profit plus a 4% development levy, which replaced the tertiary education, NITDA, NASENI and police trust fund levies with a single charge.
An estimate on the figures you enter, not tax advice. A real return accounts for every source of income, withholding already suffered and any relief specific to your circumstances, which is what the filing interview collects.
